January/February 1967 European concert tour program

Original vintage concert program produced for American jazz luminary Duke Ellington’s January/February 1967 European tour with an orchestra consisting of Johnny Hodges, Jimmy Hamilton, Paul Gonsalves, Harry Carney, Russell Procope (saxes); Chuck Connors, Buster Cooper, Lawrence Brown (trombones); Cat Anderson, Cootie Williams, Mercer Ellington, Herbie Jones (trumpets); John Lamb (bass), and Rufus Jones (drums). The tour encompassed Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, and Sweden. Ella Fitzgerald and her trio — pianist Jimmie Jones, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Sam Woodyard — joined Ellington for some of the concerts. For the joint concerts during this tour, the show began with a set by Ellington and his orchestra. After the intermission, Ella and her trio, perhaps accompanied by the Ellington orchestra, played a set, at the end of which Ellington returned to join Ella in “Cotton Tail”.

In original pictorial matte-coated wrappers, staple bound,  27.6 x 25.5 cm, 16 pp. Program notes in both English and German by Godo Remszhardt. In near excellent unmarked condition, tightly bound and clean. Additional images of the program available on request.
