Town Hall, Birmingham June 1964 concert flyer

Original first printing concert flyer advertising the Dave Brubeck Quartet at the Town Hall in Birmingham [England] on Friday, 5th June, 1964, presented by Harold Davison. The Quartet were touring Europe in support of Times Changes, a studio album, produced by Teo Macero, based upon the use of time signatures that were, because of Brubeck’s previous work, a mainstay in popular jazz music. After returning from Japan, the Quartet went straight into the CBS 30th Street Studio in New York, again with produced Teo Mecero, to record Jazz Impressions of Japan — according to Brubeck a sort of trip diary of their recent Japanase tour. The album was also, in a sense, Brubeck fulfilling a dictum from his teacher, the French composer Darius Milhaud, who exhorted him to “travel the world and keep your ears open.”

The flyer measures 17.3 x 23.1 cm and is beautifully printed in red and black inks on thin, coated paper stock. Complete with the original postal booking form still intact. Folded horizontally at the middle, else in near excellent condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
