Schumann-Saal, Düsseldorf October 1984 concert poster
Original first printing concert poster advertising the Dave Brubeck Quartet at the Schumann-Saal in Düsseldorf [Germany] on Wednesday, 31st October, 1984, presented by Karsten Jahnke in cooperation with René Hainersdorff. Besides the leader himself, Brubeck’s quartet featured bassist and trombonist Chris Brubeck, drummer Butch Miles (1944–2023), and tenor saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi. Brubeck was touring Europe in support of For Iola – an album, dedicated to Brubeck’s wife Iola, released in August 1984 on Carl Jefferson’s Concord Records. The poster features a striking photo of Brubeck credited to Hans Harzheim, with the artist’s imprint to the lower right side border. The same photo was used to advertise Brubeck’s June 1987 and March 1988 German tours.
The poster measures 59.2 x 83.9 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed in black ink on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent condition, unfolded and clean.
