Apollo, Antwerp + Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels December 1959 concert flyer

Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers’ two performances at the Apollo in Antwerp and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels [Belgium] on Sunday, 13th December, 1959, presented by Le Hot Club de Belgique. Two concerts on the same day, even in two different cities, weren’t unusual back then, although the time schedule must have been tight. For the European tour, the Jazz Messengers featured trumpeter Lee Morgan (1938–1972), saxophonist Wayne Shorter (1933–2023), double bassist Jymie Merritt (1926–2020), and pianist Walter Davis Jr. (1932–1990).

The flyer measures 19.8 x 14.8 cm (approx. 7.8″ by 5.8″ inches) and is beautifully printed in black ink on thin, yellow smooth-finish uncoated card stock. These unique Belgian flyers were mailed to members of the Belgian Hot Club as well as used as window cards in nearby theaters, shops and businesses as a promotional tool with the primary purpose of selling tickets. Ticket prices was 150 Belgian francs, while members of the H.C.B. would get a 25 franc discount. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
