Yubin Chokin Kaikan, Tokyo February/March 1973 concert flyer

Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers’ two concerts at the Yubin Chokin Kaikan in Tokyo [Japan] on 28th February and 17th March, 1973. The Jazz Messengers at the time featured pianist Cedar Walton, saxophonist Carter Jefferson, bassist Mickey Bass, trumpeter Woody Shaw, percussionist Ray Mantilla and conga player Tony Waters. Except for Mantilla, they all appeared on the Buhaina album, recorded at Fantasy Studios during March 1973 and produced by Orrin Keepnews. The name of the album comes from the name Blakey took for himself after conversion to Islam.

The flyer measures 18.2 x 25.6 cm (approx. 7.1″ by 10″ inches) and is printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
