Large original used concert ticket forArt Blakey & The Jazz Messengers’ performance at the Kitami Civic Hall in Kitami [Japan] on Thursday, 28th October, 1971. Described as “the volcano” of be-bop drummers by Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey continued performing and touring with the Jazz Messengers through the end of the 1980s. His final performances were in July 1990. He died on 16th October, 1990, of lung cancer, aged 71. He was inducted into the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame in 1981, the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998 and 2001, and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1991.
