Postal Savings Hall, Hiroshima March 1982 concert flyer
Large original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising Count Basie at the Postal Savings Hall in Hiroshima [Japan] on Thursday, 18th March, 1982. Basie’s orchestra for the tour featured Dale Carley, Sonny Cohn, Robert Summers, Christopher Albert (trumpets); Bill Hughes, Bootie Wood, Dennis Wilson, Grover Mitchell (trombones); Kenny Hing, Bobby Plater, John Williams Jr., Eric Dixon, Danny Turner (saxophones); Freddie Green (guitar); Greg Field (drums); James Leary (bass); and Dennis Rowland (vocals). The singer Dennis Rowland was hired by Basie in 1977. For Rowland, it was a dream come true, filling the same role his idols Joe Williams and Jimmy Rushing had occupied. He toured with Basie for the next seven years. During his time with Basie, he had the chance to share the stage with Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Tony Bennett.
The flyer measures 18.2 x 25.8 cm (approx. 7.2″ by 10.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. Folded twice horizontally, else in near excellent condition.
