Koseinenkin Hall, Tokyo April 1976 concert flyer

Large original double-sided first printing concert handbill advertising American jazz pianist, bandleader, and composer Count Basie (1930–2004) at the Koseinenkin Hall (aka. Welfare Pension Hall) in Tokyo [Japan] on 7th & 17th April, 1976. The concert on 7th April was the first stop on Basie’s 17-date Japanese tour during April 1976. The orchestra for the Japanese tour featured Sonny Cohn, Pete Minger, John Thomas, Bob Mitchell (trumpets); Bill Hughes, Mel Wanzo, Al Grey, George Lewis (trombones); Charles Fowlkes, Bobby Plater, Jimmy Forrest, Eric “Big Daddy” Dixon, Danny Turner (saxophones); Freddie Green (guitar); Butch Miles (drums); John Duke (bass); and Bill Caffie (vocals). Immediately prior to the Japanese tour, Basie and orchestra went into New York’s RCA Studios and recorded the I Told You So album. Produced by Norman Granz and released on Granz’ own Pablo Records, all titles were arranged by Bill Holman. Cincinnati legend, Bill Caffie, was the singer with Basie’s band from 1974–1977. In 1977, he was replaced by Dennis Rowland.

The flyer measures 18.3 x 25.9 cm (approx. 7.2″ by 10.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
