Grugahalle, Essen October 1979 concert poster
Original first printing concert poster advertising American singer, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte (1927–2023) at the Grugahalle in Essen [Germany] on Sunday, 21st October, 1979, presented by Lippmann+Rau in cooperation with the ICO. This was around the time of the release of Turn the World Around (1977). After recording exclusively for the RCA Victor label since 1953, Belafonte signed with Columbia Records in the mid 1970s. After a series of pop-oriented albums, Turn the World Around was a return to interpreting folk songs of other cultures. AllMusic critic Gary Ginell called it “an absolute triumph and one of the finest albums of his career.”
The poster measures 59.9 x 84.0 cm (approx. 23.6″ by 33.1″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
