Description
Late 1960s Japanese Polydor Records promo poster
Original first printing Jimi Hendrix promotional poster issued in Japan by Polydor Records presumably in the late 1960s. The Japanese text to the bottom right corner, next to the Polydor logo, simply translates as Polydor Records. Jimi’s record label in England, Track Records, was reliant upon distribution support in the United Kingdom from the large Polydor Records label based in Germany. Polydor’s involvement with Track can be seen as its learning process about the rock music market. Polydor was interested in expanding its base beyond easy listening and ballads. Its best known artist at the time was Bert Kaempfert. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 41.8 x 59.0 cm (approx. 16.4″ by 23.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. Tiny pin hole to each corner, else in remarkably excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
