Congress Centrum, Hamburg April 1982 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising American jazz musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer Miles Davis (1926–1991) at the Congress Centrum in Hamburg [Germany] on Friday, 16th April, 1982, presented by Lippmann+Rau in conjunction with ICO and in cooperation with local Hamburg promoter Karsten Jahnke. Having suffered a stroke in early 1982, which left his right hand paralyzed, Miles was in poor health. In spite of his weakened condition and lack of practice, he took the band on a month-and-a-half tour of Europe in April – the first European tour since 1973. Now playing with a cordless amplified trumpet, he was able to get by, though some nights he played from a wheelchair. The band featured saxophonist Bill Evans, guitarist Mike Stern, bassist Marcus Miller, drummer Al Foster, and percussionist Mino Cinelu. They were mostly playing the tunes on We Want Miles – “Jean-Pierre”, “Back Seat Betty”, “Fast Track”, “My Man’s Gone Now” – a double live album, produced by Teo Macero and released in May 1982. After returning to the United States, Miles began work in August 1982 on Star People, the last project involving producer Teo Macero and arranger Gil Evans. The first to feature electric guitarist John Scofield, Star People was released in April 1983 on Columbia Records.

The poster measures 83.8 x 59.3 cm (approx. 33″ by 23.3″ inches) and is beautifully printed in mint green, purple and black inks on thin coated paper stock. Light sporadic edge wear, else in remarkably near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
