Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels December 1964 concert flyer
Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising American jazz pianist and composer Erroll Garner (1923–1977) at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels [Belgium] on Saturday, 19th December, 1964, accompanied by bassist Eddie Calhoun (1921–1994) and drummer Kelly Martin (1914). It was quite the norm back then that American jazz artists visiting Europe would perform twice at the same venue on the same night, an afternoon and an evening show. However, Garner always insisted on just one concert a night. He explained the reasoning behind this with the fact that he perspires a lot. “When I’m through, my shirt and my clothes are soggy. I can’t do that twice a night. If an artist does this, against his better judgment, both shows are liable to be below par.” The album Amsterdam Concert was recorded on this tour and released by Philips Records in the Netherlands that same year.
The flyer measures 13.5 x 17.9 cm (approx. 5.3″ by 7″ inches) and is beautifully printed in red and black inks on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. Folded once horizontally at the middle, else in excellent condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
