Musikhalle, Hamburg June 1976 concert poster (Hansen-Medina)

Original first printing concert poster advertising American jazz pianist and composer Bill Evans at the Musikhalle in Hamburg [Germany] on Friday, 11th June, 1976, presented by Hans-Werner Funke. The Hamburg concert was part of the Jazz 200 event, a jazz festival held in Hamburg from 6th to 13th June, 1976 to celebrate the United States of America Bicentennial. Performing artists, besides Bill Evans, included the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, Professor Longhair, Memphis Slim, Champion Jack Dupree, Dexter Gordon, Slide Hampton, Benny Waters, and others. Evans was accompanied by Eddie Gómez and drummer Eliot Zigmund, who had replaced Marty Morell the previous year. Several collaborations followed, but it wasn’t until 1977 that the trio was able to record an album together. Both I Will Say Goodbye and You Must Believe in Spring highlighted changes that would become significant in the last stage of Evans’ life. A greater emphasis was placed on group improvisation and interaction, and new harmonic experiments were attempted. Both Gómez and Zigmund left Evans in 1978. The poster features artwork by Hansen-Medina, with the imprint to the bottom right corner.

The poster measures 59.3 x 83.9 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
