Festival Hall, Osaka May 1983 concert flyer

Large original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising the Miles Davis Septet and the Gil Evans Orchestra’s two concerts at the Festival Hall in Osaka [Japan] on 25th & 26th May, 1983. The two shows in Osaka were part of Miles’ May 1983 Japanese tour, in support of the Star People album, also visiting Sapporo (18th May), Sendai (20th May), Kyushu (22nd May), Nagoya (24th May),  and Tokyo (28th & 29th May). Produced by Teo Macero and released in 1983 by Columbia Records, Star People was the third release after the trumpeter’s six-year hiatus. Beside the members of the band of We Want Miles the recordings feature guitarist John Scofield for the first time, who worked alongside Mike Stern in Davis’ band in late 1982 and early 1983 before Stern’s departure later in the year. Scofield was recommended by saxophonist Bill Evans. Marcus Miller played on five of the six tracks, but was replaced by Tom Barney on the most recent track of the album, “Speak”, a live recording from February 1983 in Houston. Barney would be replaced later in 1983 by Darryl Jones. Al Foster and Mino Cinelu are heard on drums and percussion.

The flyer measures 18.0 x 25.6 cm and is beautifully printed on thin, uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
