Description

Théâtre Femina, Bordeaux March 1978 concert poster (Anon.)

Original first printing concert poster advertising American jazz tenor saxophonist Illinois Jacquet (1919—2004) at the Théâtre Femina in Bordeaux [France] on Wednesday, 22nd March, 1978, accompanied by pianist Hank Jones, drummer J. C. Heard, and bassist George Duvivier. Although he was a pioneer of the honking tenor saxophone that became a regular feature of jazz playing and a hallmark of early rock and roll, Illinois Jacquet was a skilled and melodic improviser, both on up-tempo tunes and ballads. He doubled on the bassoon, one of only a few jazz musicians to use the instrument. Jacquet’s final performance was on 16th July, 2004, at the Lincoln Center in New York. He died in his home in Queens, New York of a heart attack on 22nd July, 2004.

Printed by Imprimerie Baroukel, Bordeaux, with the printer’s imprint to the bottom right corner. The poster measures 38.7 x 58.6 cm (approx.  15.2 by 23.1 inches) and is printed in orange and black inks on thin, uncoated paper stock. There is edge wear to the lower left side border, else in near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have regarding this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
