1981 Japanese Rolling Stones Records/Toshiba EMI promotional poster for “Tattoo You”

Large original first printing Rolling Stones promotional poster issued by Rolling Stones Records/Toshiba EMI in Japan in 1981 to promote the release of the Tattoo You album – the band’s sixteenth studio album, produced by The Glimmer Twins, and originally released in August 1981 on Rolling Stones Records. The album title was originally planned to be simply Tattoo. Jagger claims to this day that even he has no clue how the “You” became attached to the title. The title caused friction between Jagger and Richards, with Richards suspecting that Jagger had changed the title without seeking his input. Containing the singles “Start Me Up”, “Waiting on a Friend”, and “Hang Fire”, the album was a huge commercial hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard 200 in September 1981. It stayed 58 weeks on the hart, 9 weeks at #1. Tattoo You was certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in May 2000 for sales exceeding 4,000,000 copies in the US alone. And in the UK it was certified Gold by the BPI  for sales exceeding 100,000 copies. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 59.3 x 83.9 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. There is a one inch closed rip to the center of the top border, else in excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
