1980 Japanese A&M/Alfa Records promotional poster for “Zenyatta Mondatta”

Original first printing The Police promotional poster issued by A&M/Alfa Records in Japan in 1980 to promote the release of Zenyatta Mondatta —the band’s third studio album, produced by Nigel Gray, and originally released on 3rd October, 1980 on A&M Records. Containing the hit singles “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” and “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da”, the album peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the chart for 152 weeks (21 weeks in the top 10). It was certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in December 2001 for sales exceeding 2,000,000 copies in the US. In the UK, the album reached #1 and stayed on the UK Album Chart for 31 weeks. It was certified Platinum by the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) in October 1980 for sales exceeding 300,000 copies in the United Kingdom alone. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
