Sporthalle, Böblingen October 1981 concert poster

Large original first printing concert poster advertising British rock group The Police at the Sporthalle in Böblingen [Germany] on Thursday, 1st October, 1981, presented by MAMA Concerts. The show in Böblingen was the first stop on a 7-date German tour during October 1981 to promote the release of The Ghost in the Machine – their fourth studio album, produced by band themselves along with Hugh Padgham, and originally released on 2nd October, 1981 on A&M Records. Containing the hit singles “Invisible Sun”, “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”, and “Spirits in the Material World”, the album was a huge commercial success. It reached #2 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 109 weeks (24 weeks in the top 10). It was certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in December 2001 for sales exceeding 3,000,000 copies in the US. In the UK, the album went straight to #1 and stayed on the UK Album Chart for 27 weeks. It was certified Platinum by the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) in October 1981 for sales exceeding 300,000 copies in the United Kingdom alone. Robert Christgau (Xgau) gave the album a B+ rating.

The poster measures 84.2 x 59.4 cm (approx. 33.1″ by 23.4″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. Light sporadic surface handling wear, else in excellent unfolded condition.
