Description
July 1980 Japanese concert tour program
Large original vintage program book lavishly produced for English rock group The Jam’s July 1980 Japanese tour, presented by Van Planning Inc. The brief 5-date tour commenced at the Mainichi Hall in Osaka on 3rd July, and ended with two consecutive shows at the Nippon Seinenkan Hall in Tokyo on 7th & 8th July, 1980. The tour was a momentous occasion for the band, marking their first-ever tour of Japan. The tour caught the English mod-punk trio at an absolute high-water mark of UK popularity – having just scored their first UK 31 single with “Going Underground” earlier that spring. The tour served as the bridge between their fourth album, Setting Sons, and the upcoming recording sessions for Sound Affects. Unlike their final tour in 1982, which featured a brass section and backup players, the 1980 tour was The Jam at their leanest and most aggressive. Armed only with Weller’s piercing Rickenbacker guitar, Foxton’s driving bass lines, and Buckler’s explosive drumming, the band delivered a rapid-fire wall of sound that completely won over the Japanese audiences. The final night on 8th July was captured via an immaculate soundboard recording. It became a legendary bootleg among collectors for decades, valued for its pristine audio quality.
In original illustrated coated wrappers, staple bound, 25.7 x 36.5 cm, 20 pp. All text in Japanese. Folded horizontally at the middle with light wear to spine and extremities. Else tightly bound and clean.
