January/February 1973 Japanese concert tour program

Large original program book lavishly produced for American singer-songwriter and guitarist James Taylor’s January/February 1973 Japanese tour, presented by Kyodo Tokyo as part of their “Love Sounds Special” series. The 8-date tour kicked off with two consecutive shows at the Welfare Pension Hall in Tokyo on 25th & 26th January, and ended at the same venue on 9th February, 1973. The tour marked Taylor’s very first time performing in Japan, arriving right as he was cementing his status as the definitive voice of the American singer-songwriter movement. The tour was booked to promote his late 1972 studio album, One Man Dog. Taylor toured Japan with the legendary West Coast session group The Section. Having these specific musicians allowed him to perfectly recreate the complex, jazz-tinged folk-rock arrangements of his studio records on stage. The tour held a unique personal significance as Taylor had just married fellow superstar Carly Simon in November 1972. Simon traveled to Japan with him, and during the shows, she would surprise the audience by walking out on stage to join Taylor. Together, they performed her massive, freshly released #1 global hit, “You’re So Vain”.

In original illustrated dull-coated wrappers, staple bound, 25.7 x 36.5 cm, 32 pp. All text in Japanese. In excellent complete condition, tightly bound and clean.
