May 1978 Japanese concert tour program
Large original vintage concert program lavishly produced for Bulgarian-born French singer and actress Sylvie Vartan’s 8-date May 1978 Japanese tour, presented by the International Artist Booking Corporation (IAB). The 18-date tour commenced with two consecutive shows at the Shibuya Public Hall in Tokyo on 9th & 10th May and ended at the Prefectural Civic Center in Niigata on 29th May, 1978. The tour was Vartan’s 7th official concert tour in Japan. It captured her at a fascinating transition point in her career, shifting from her yé-yé pop roots into a grander, high-production cabaret and rock-and-roll performer. The tour served to promote the Japanese release of her grand live album, Palais des Congrès de Paris 1977. This massive production featured an iconic cover photograph by legendary photographer Helmut Newton, framing her tour with a high-fashion, avant-garde Parisian aesthetic. Known for her spectacular, theatrical stage presence, her Japanese shows were highly visual “spectacles” designed to mirror the dazzling energy of her Paris residency.
In original illustrated gloss-coated wrappers, staple bound, 25.6 x 36.4 cm, 24 pp. All text in Japanese. In near excellent complete condition, tightly bound and clean.
