Volkshaus, Zürich June 1978 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising American rock group Styx at the Volkshaus in Zürich [Switzerland] on Friday, 2nd June, 1978, presented by Free Agency/Virgin Agency, and with English rock group Dire Straits as special guests. The Zürich show (the only concert in Switzerland on the tour) was part of Styx’ European tour during June in support of The Grand Illusion – their seventh studio album, produced by the band members themselves, and originally released by A&M Records in the United States on 7th July, 1977. Containing the hit singles “Come Sail Away” and “Fooling Yourself”, the album was a huge commercial success. It reached #6 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the chart for a massive 127 weeks (12 weeks in the top 10). It was certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in November 1984 for sales exceeding 3,000,000 copies in the US. Prior to going on tour with Styx, Dire Straits had been busy in the Basing Street Studios in London recording their self-titled debut album, produced by Muff Winwood. Featuring the hit single “Sultans of Swing”, which reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100, the album was released on 7th October, 1978 and was certified double-platinum in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

The poster measures 29.6 x 61.4 cm (approx. 11.7″ by 24.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on medium-thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
