1974 Japanese Probe Records promotional poster for “Count Down to Ecstasy”
Large original first printing Steely Dan promotional poster issued by Probe Records in Japan in 1974 to promote the release of the Count Down to Ecstasy album – the band’s second studio album, produced by Gary Katz, and originally released in July 1973 on ABC Records. In Japan the album was released on Probe Records as part of their “Rock Now” series, manufactured by Toshiba EMI. Containing the singles “Show Biz Kids” and “My Old School”, the album reached #35 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the chart for 34 weeks. It was certified Gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in March 1978 for sales exceeding 500,000 copies in the US. After the departure of vocalist David Palmer, Count Down to Ecstasy was the first album with Donald Fagen singing lead on every track. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 89.0 x 59.4 cm (approx. 35″ by 23.4″ inches) and is printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition with minimal sporadic edge wear.
