Philharmonie, Berlin May 1979 concert poster

Large original first printing concert poster advertising Argentine folk singer Mercedes Sosa (1935–2009) at the Philharmonie in Berlin [Germany] on Thursday, 24th May, 1979. With her roots in Argentine folk music, Sosa became one of the preeminent exponents of El nuevo cancionero. She gave voice to songs written by many Latin American songwriters. Her music made people hail her as the “voice of the voiceless ones”. She was often called “the conscience of Latin America”. Having recorded more than 40 albums, Sosa died from multiple organ failure on 4th October, 2009, aged 74. Helen Popper of Reuters reported her death by saying she “fought South America’s dictators with her voice and became a giant of contemporary Latin American music”.

The poster measures 59.2 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
