1968 Japanese CBS/Sony promotional poster for “Bookends”

Large original first printing Simon & Garfunkel promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony in Japan in 1968 to promote the release of the Bookends album – the duo’s fourth studio album, produced by Roy Halee, and originally released on 3rd April, 1968 on Columbia Records in the USA. Containing the singles “A Hazy Shade of Winter”, “At the Zoo”, “Fakin’ It”, “Mrs. Robinson” and “America”, the album reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 77 weeks (7 weeks at #1 and 20 weeks in the top 10). It was certified 2x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in November 1986 for sales exceeding 2,000,000 copies in the US. In the UK, the album also reached #1 and stayed on the UK Album Chart for a massive 77 weeks. Bookends was considered a breakthrough for the duo, placing them on the same level as artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stonesat the forefront of the countercultural movement in the 1960s. Alongside The Graduate soundtrack, the album propelled Simon & Garfunkel to become the biggest rock duo in the world. The poster features striking artwork credited to Don Hunstein and Bob Cato. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 56.1 x 83.8 cm (approx. 22.1″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on medium-thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition.
