1977 Japanese CBS/Sony Inc. promotional poster for “Festivál”

Large original first printing Santana promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony Inc. in Japan in 1977 to promote the release of the Festivál album – the band’s eighth studio album, produced by David Rubinson, and originally released in January 1977 on Columbia Records. Containing the singles “Let the Children Play”, “Jugando”, and “Verão Vermelho”, the album peaked at #27 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the chart for 19 weeks. It was certified Gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in April 1977 for sales exceeding 500,000 copies in the US. In the UK, the album also reached #27 on the UK Album Chart and was certified Silver by the BPI  for sales exceeding 60,000 copies. Festivál was the second and last album with Leon Patillo on vocals, and the last full-studio album with longtime keyboard player Tom Coster. It was also the first one with percussionist Raul Rekow, who would remain with the band until 2013 (save for 1987–1990). The poster features a photo credited to O. Konno, with the artist’s imprint to the bottom left corner. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 83.8 x 59.3 cm (approx. 33″ by 23.3″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
