November 1973 Japanese concert tour program
Large original program book lavishly produced for Leon Russell & The Shelter People’s November 1973 Japanese tour, presented by Udo Artists, Inc. The brief 4-date tour commenced at the Welfare Pension Hall in Osaka on 5th November, and ended with two consecutive shows at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on 8th & 9th November, 1973. The tour was a highly significant, yet historically overlooked leg of his 1973 world tour. Taking place at the absolute peak of his commercial power – following his hit album Carney (1972) and his massive triple-vinyl live album Leon Live (1973) – this tour captured Russell at his most explosive, channeling a fierce mix of rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, swamp rock, and bluesy funk. Unlike the sprawling, multi-layered sets of his American tours, his performance in Japan was a tightly wound, stripped-down affair. Without room for overindulgence or excessive banter, Russell and his band simply delivered a relentless wall of rhythm and soul. The show at the Budokan on 8th November was professionally recorded and mixed, resulting in the live album Live in Japan, released by Shelter Records.
In original illustrated dull-coated wrappers, staple bound, 25.5 x 36.0 cm, 40 pp. All text in Japanese. In excellent complete condition, tightly bound and clean..
