1980 Japanese Elektra/Warner-Pioneer Corporation promotional poster for “Flash Gordon”
Large original first printing Queen promotional poster issued by Elektra/Warner-Pioneer Corporation in Japan in 1980 to promote the release of the soundtrack album from the film “Flash Gordon”. Produced by Brian May and Rheinhold Mack, the album was originally released on 8th December 1980 by EMI Records in the UK and on 27th January, 1981 by Elektra Records in the US. It was Queen’s first soundtrack album and ninth studio album. Unlike most soundtrack albums, audio from the film is prominently used in the theme song and the score selections of the album. Containing the single “Flash”, the album reached #23 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 15 weeks (7 week in the top 10). In the UK, the album reached #10 and stayed on the UK Album Chart for 15 weeks. It was certified Gold by the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) for sales exceeding 100,000 copies in the United Kingdom alone. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 59.3 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. Light foxing (age related spots) to the yellow parts in “QUEEN”, else in remarkably near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item.
