Description

Philharmonie, Munich July 1988 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising Canadian jazz pianist and composer Oscar Peterson (1925–2007) at the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich [Germany] on Tuesday, 12th July, 1988, presented by Konzertagentur LOFT. Unless he played solo piano, I presume Peterson was accompanied by Canadian double bassist Dave Young and English drummer Martin Drew. Peterson’s performance was part of the “Münchner Klaviersommer”, a jazz and classical music festival in Munich that ran from 1981 to 2006. The concert series was initiated by Friedrich Gulda in 1981 with the idea of combining jazz and classical music and mutually stimulating them. Gulda himself was not only a classical pianist, but also played jazz. At first only pianists were guests, later the spectrum expanded to include all kinds of instruments, groups and orchestras.

The poster measures 59.3 x 84.1 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33.1″ inches) and is beautifully printed in yellow, red and black inks on thin coated paper stock. Unfolded, but with a couple of horizontal crease lines and a touch of surface handling wear. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
