1995 Japanese Sony Records promotional poster for “Vitalogy”
Original first printing Pearl Jam promotional poster issued by Sony Records (Sony Music Entertainment (Japan), Inc.) in Japan in 1995 to promote the release of the Vitalogy album – the band’s fourth studio album, produced by Brendan O’Brien, and originally released on 22nd November, 1994 on Epic Records in the USA. Containing the singles “Spin the Black Circle”, “Not for You”, and “Immortality”, the album reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on the chart for 55 weeks (1 week at #1 and 11 weeks in the top 10). It was certified 5x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in October 1995 for sales exceeding 5,000,000 copies in the US. In the UK, the album peaked at #6 and stayed on the UK Album Chart for 11 weeks. It was certified Gold by the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) in December 1994 for sales exceeding 100,000 copies in the United Kingdom alone. To support the album, Pearl Jam toured during February 1995, with shows in Sendai (18th Feb), Tokyo (20th Feb), and Osaka (21st Feb). A fourth concert in Kobe (22nd Feb) had to be canceled due to the large earthquake in the Kobe area, which occurred on 17th January, 1995. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
