Large original first printing vintage concert poster advertising Newport à Paris staged at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris [France] from 23rd to 29th October, 1970, presented by Georges Wilson in cooperation with George Wein. Performing artists included Buddy Rich and his Orchestra; the Earl Hines Quartet with singer Marva Josie; the Dave Brubeck Trio with Gerry Mulligan; the Modern Jazz Quartet; a piano workshop with John Lewis, Earl Hines, Dave Brubeck and Martial Solal; Anita O’Day and her trio; the Charles Mingus Sextet; the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band with Dizzy Gillespie; Phil Woods and his  European Rhythm Machine; the Ivan Julien Big Band; the Martial Solal Trio; the Michel Roques Trio; and the Jean-Claude Naude and his Orchestra. The poster features typographic artwork by renowned French graphic artist Marcel Jacno (1904—1989), with the artist’s imprint to the upper left side next to the TNP logo. It was Jacno who was responsible for designing the TNP logo in 1951. A logotype that represents a stamp similar to those applied to the coffers of touring theatre companies. The success led Jacno to work extensively for theatre and live performance. From the 1950s to the 1980s, he emerged as the leading graphic designer in this field. Printer’s imprint (Ets St. Martin imp, Paris) to the center of the bottom border.

The poster measures 79.8 x 119.9 cm (approx. 31.4″ by 47.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed in red, blue and black inks on thin, coated paper stock (coated on front only). Folded thrice with lige wear/age toning to the fold lines. Light sporadic edge wear. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item.
