September 1971 Japanese concert tour program
Large original vintage concert program lavishly produced for English rock group Led Zeppelin’s September 1971 Japanese tour, presented by Kyodo Tokyo. The brief 5-date tour commenced with two consecutive shows at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on 23rd and 24th September and ended with another two shows at the Festival Hall in Osaka on 28th and 29th September, 1971. The short run happened just weeks before the release of their untitled fourth album, capturing the group at a ferocious creative peak. The concert in Hiroshima on 27th September was organized as a peace benefit. In return for the gesture, the local mayor presented the band with an official city medal and a letter of appreciation. The concerts featured massive, sprawling improvisations. Performances of “Whole Lotta Love” frequently stretched past 30 minutes, incorporating covers and medleys of classic rock and blues tunes. Local engineers multitracked several of the shows for the Japanese branch of Atlantic Records. However, guitarist Jimmy Page reportedly disliked the resulting audio quality so much that he erased the master tapes to reuse them.
In original illustrated coated wrappers, staple bound, 25.7 x 36.3 cm, 28 pp. All text in Japanese. Light wear to spine and extremities, else in near excellent complete condition, tightly bound and clean.
