Zagreb: Zora (“Tokovi” – Strani pisci), 1971 [not in Charters]. First and only printing of the first Croatian edition of On the Road, translated by Nada Šoljan. Contains a 5 page afterword by Zvonimir Majdak titled “Jack Kerouac: Na cesti”. Precedes the first Serbian edition by 17 years. Printed by Slobodne Dalmacije, Split. Unknown number of copies issued in November 1971. Allegedly there was a warehouse fire and only few copies of this edition survived. The dust jacket artwork, a detail of The Beatles’ Revolver album, is credited to Boris Dogan.
Duodecimo (12mo), 12.2 x 19.5 cm, 312 pp. Yellow cloth stamped in burgundy, white and silver on front and silver only on spine. In glossy illustrated dust jacket. The entire jacket has a film laminate, which is subject to peeling. Near fine in very good jacket. Additional images of the book available on request.
