Musikhalle, Hamburg May 1959 concert poster (Michel+Kieser)
Original vintage first printing concert poster advertising the Gene Krupa Quartet, the Gerry Mulligan Quartet, and the Jimmy Giuffre Three at the Musikhalle in Hamburg [Germany] on Sunday, 31st May, 1959, presented by Kurt Collien in association with Norman Granz. Mulligan’s quartet consisted of trumpeter Art Farmer, drummer Dave Bailey and bassist Bill Crow, while guitarist Jim Hall and bassist Buddy Clark were with Giuffre. Krupa’s group included saxophonist Eddie Wasserman, pianist Ronnie Ball and bassist Jimmy Gannon. The poster features striking artwork by noted German graphic duo, Hans Michel & Günther Kieser, with their imprint to the center of the right side border.
The poster measures 59.1 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is printed on thin, uncoated paper stock. Neatly folded thrice with tack holes to the corners.
