Nippon Budokan, Tokyo January 1980 concert poster
Original first printing concert poster advertising British-American rock group Foreigner’s three consecutive concerts at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo [Japan] on 25th, 26th & 27th January, 1980, presented by Universal Orient Promotions. The Budokan shows were part of their Japanese tour during January in support of the Head Games album – their third studio album, produced by Roy Thomas Baker along with Mick Jones and Ian McDonald, the album was originally released by Atlantic Records on 11th September, 1979. Containing the hit singles “Dirty White Boy” and “Head Games”, the album was a huge commercial success. It reached #5 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the chart for 41 weeks (6 weeks in the top 10). It was certified 5x Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in January 2002 for sales exceeding 5,000,000 copies in the US. The album marked the first appearance of new bass guitarist Rick Wills, who replaced the departing Ed Gagliardi. It was also the last album with founding members Ian McDonald and Al Greenwood.
The poster measures 51.4 x 72.7 cm (approx. 20.2″ by 28.6″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition.
