June 1975 Japanese concert tour program
Large original program book lavishly produced for Dutch progressive rock group Focus’ June 1975 Japanese tour, presented by Udo Artists, Inc. The 7-date tour kicked off with two consecutive shows at the Nakano Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo on 14th & 15th June, and ended at the same venue with two shows on the very same day on 22nd June, 1975. The tour captured a highly fascinating, transitionary, and somewhat eccentric chapter in the band’s history. By mid-1975, the creative partnership between keyboardist/flutist Thijs van Leer and virtuoso guitarist Jan Akkerman was highly strained. They had shifted away from their sweeping classical-prog roots toward an inconsequential jazz-funk sound to support their upcoming late-1975 studio album, Mother Focus. Compounding the strange dynamic, the band briefly brought back original drummer Pierre van der Linden for this run. Since the band members could not agree on a concrete setlist, their Japanese performances were heavily defined by unrehearsed, loose jazz-funk improvisations that often left audiences bewildered.
In original illustrated dull-coated wrappers, staple bound, 25.7 x 36.3 cm, 32 pp. All text in Japanese. In excellent complete condition, tightly bound and clean.
