Théâtre Marni, Brussels November 1973 concert flyer

Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising Festival Jazz From Newport staged at the Théâtre Marni in Brussels [Belgium] from 15th to 17th November, 1973. Performing artists included blues giant B.B. King; Odetta; Duke Ellington; The Young Giants featuring Cedar Walton, Larry Ridley, Roy Haynes, Gary Burton, Joe Henderson, and Freddie Hubbard; and Sarah Vaughan. Duke Ellington and His Orchestra performed two concerts on the same evening. These two shows would turn out to be his last concerts on European soil. Ellington died on 24th May, 1974 of complications from lung cancer and pneumonia, a few weeks after his 75th birthday. At his funeral, attended by over 12,000 people at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Ella Fitzgerald summed up the occasion, “It’s a very sad day. A genius has passed.”

The flyer measures 12.0 x 18.0 cm (approx. 4.7″ by 7.1″ inches) and is beautifully printed in red, blue and black inks on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
