1980 Japanese CBS/Sony Inc. promotional poster for “Saved”

Large original first printing Bob Dylan promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony Inc. in Japan in 1980 to promote the release of the Saved album – Dylan’s twentieth studio album, produced by Barry Beckett and Jerry Wexler, and originally released on 23rd June, 1980 on Columbia Records in North America. Saved was the second album of Dylan’s “Christian trilogy”. It expanded on themes explored on its predecessor Slow Train Coming, with gospel arrangements and lyrics extolling the importance of a strong personal faith. A quote inside the sleeve notes reads: “Behold, the days come, sayeth the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah (Jeremiah 31:31)”. Critical reaction to the album was mixed, and the album peaked at #24 on the Billboard 200, and only stayed on the chart for 11 weeks. In the UK, the album reached #3 on the UK Album Chart and was certified Silver by the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) for sales exceeding 60,000 copies in the United Kingdom alone. The poster features striking artwork credited to Masaru Kawahara, with the artist’s imprint to the bottom border. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 59.3 x 83.7 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, dull-coated paper stock. In remarkably near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
