Hochschule der Künste, Berlin concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising British singer-songwriter Donovan Leitch at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin [Germany] on Monday, 19th May, 1980, presented by Concert Concept Berlin. The punk era had provoked a backlash in Britain against the optimism and whimsy of the hippie era, of which Donovan was a prime example. The word “hippie” became pejorative, and Donovan’s fortunes suffered. After the album Donovan (1977) failed to chart in both the UK and US, Donovan left his long-time producer Mickie Most. He travelled throughout mainland Europe, bringing attention to world hunger and protesting against nuclear proliferation and weapons development. RCA signed him for a European record distribution deal, beginning with Neutronica, released in August 1980. Many of the songs Donovan wrote for Neutronica are directly related to his political views. At the time, he was campaigning against what he viewed as disproportionate military spending while famine existed across much of the world. Donovan also recorded “Mee Mee I Love You”, a song co-written by his daughter Astrella Leitch, and two war-themed songs. The album did not receive distribution in the US or UK.

The poster measures 61.0 x 85.6 cm (approx. 24″ by 33.7″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
