1977 Japanese CBS/Sony Inc. promo poster for “Elegant Gypsy”
Large original first printing Al Di Meola (1954) promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony Inc. in Japan in 1977 to promote the release of the Elegant Gypsy album – his only second studio album, produced by Di Meola himself, and released in April 1977 on Columbia Records. The music on the album is a speedy fusion of jazz and rock, with lightning-fast guitar riffs intermixed with lyrical acoustical passages. The songs include explorations of Latin music themes, including acoustic genres like flamenco. Elegant Gypsy peaked at #58 on the Billboard 200 and won an annual award for Best Guitar Album in Guitar Player magazine. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 59.0 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.2″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. Light sporadic edge wear, else in remarkably near excellent condition.
