Guildhall, Portsmouth May 1970 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising English progressive jazz-rock group Colosseum at the Guildhall in Portsmouth [England] on Thursday, 28th May, 1970, presented by John and Tony Smith in association with Gerry Bron, and with the New Jazz Orchestra also the bill. The concert in Portsmouth was part of a short four-date UK tour during May in support of the Valentyne Suite album, commencing at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon on 10th May and ending at the Dome in Brighton on 29th May, 1970. Produced by bassist Tony Reeves and Gerry Bron, the album was released on 7th November, 1969 by Vertigo Records. Valentyne Suite was the band’s second studio album, and the first album to be released on the new Vertigo label, a label launched by Philips to sign and develop artists that did not fit their main label. Containing the single “The Kettle”, the album reached #15 on the UK Album charts.

The poster measures 51.5 x 76.0 cm (approx. 20.3″ by 29.9″ inches) and is beautifully printed in purple ink on thin, blue dull-coated paper stock (coated on front only).
