Description

De Montfort Hall, Leicester March 1954 concert program

Original vintage concert program produced for American jazz pianist and vocalist Nat King Cole’s performance at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester [England] on Sunday, 28th March, 1954, presented by Arthur Kimbrell. The show in Leicester was part of Cole’s only second European tour, having visited Europe for the first time during September 1950. Now billed as “Nat King Cole & His World Famous Trio”, he was accompanied by bassist Charles Harris, guitarist John Collins, and drummer Lee Young. Guitarist Irving Ashby and bassist Joe Comfort had left in 1951, and an announcement was made that the trio was officially dissolved. But that simply meant that Cole henceforth would be billed as a solo act. In practice, he continued to carry a guitarist, a bassist, and a drummer, occasionally augmenting them with an orchestra.

In original b/w illustrated coated wrappers, staple bound, 12.3 x 18.5 cm, 8 pp. Tightly bound and clean with light sporadic handling wear. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the program available on request.
