1974 Dutch Philips/Shelter promotional poster for “Okie”
Large original first printing J. J. Cale (1938–2013) promotional poster issued by Philips/Shelter in the Netherlands in 1974 to promote the release of the Okie album – his third studio album, produced by Audie Ashworth, and originally released on 30th April, 1974 on Shelter Records in the United States and A&M in the United Kingdom. Like his previous album Really (1972), Okie was recorded in several different studios with producer Audie Ashworth. It is the first album where Cale layers his vocal tracks, something that would become one of the hallmarks of his sound. Robert Christgau (Xgau) gave the album a B– rating. The photo of Cale on the poster was used for the cover of the single “Rock And Roll Records”. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 59.2 x 89.3 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 35.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, dull-coated (coated on front only) paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition.
