March 1977 Japanese concert tour program + poster

Large original concert program produced for American rock musician, singer, and songwriter Jackson Browne’s March 1977 Japanese tour, presented by Kyodo Tokyo. The 6-date tour commenced at the Nakano Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo on 16th March, and ended at the Festival Hall in Osaka on 24th March, 1977. The tour caught Browne at a monumental peak in his career. He was on the road supporting his 1976 album, The Pretender, and was playing with the tightest, most celebrated touring musicians of the 1970s Southern California rock scene. To deliver studio-quality precision on stage, Browne brought his absolute A-team of California session aces, known collectively as The Section, featuring David Lindley, Danny Kortchmar, Leland Sklar, Russ Kunkel, and Craig Doerge. Just a few months after returning from Japan, Browne and this exact same band went back out on the road to record Running on Empty (released in December 1977). Because the band had refined their chemistry so sharply during runs like the one in Japan, they were able to record an entire album of brand-new songs completely live on stage, backstage, and in hotel rooms. Years later, official live recordings from his various Japanese tours would be compiled into the live release The Road East – Live in Japan. The program comes with the original folded poster issued with the program, which is so often missing.
