1977 Japanese Arista Records/Toshiba EMI promotional poster for “It’s a Game”
Original first printing Bay City Rollers promotional poster issued by Arista Records/Toshiba EMI in Japan in 1977 to promote the release of the It’s a Game album – their sixth studio album, produced by Harry Maslin (who had previously worked with David Bowie on Young Americans), and originally released in July 1977 on Arista Records. The album peaked at #23 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the chart for 11 weeks. It was certified Gold by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in August 1977 for sales exceeding 500,000 copies in the US. The album received moderate commercial success internationally, reaching #1 in Japan as well as reaching the top twenty in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. Pat McGlynn, who had replaced guitarist Ian Mitchell, toured with the group and participated in initial sessions for It’s a Game, but was soon dismissed from the band. McGlynn is present in the music video for the title track, indicating he is at least somewhat present on the album. After McGlynn’s departure the band briefly continued on as a 4 piece. The band would expand to a quintet again in 1978 as founding member Alan Longmuir re-joined the fold. The poster was issued as part of the label’s “100 Years of Recorded Sound” series. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 72.9 x 51.3 cm (approx. 28.7″ by 20.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
