Reitstadion, Stuttgart July 1982 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising American singer, songwriter and activist Joan Baez at the Reitstadion in Stuttgart [Germany] on Thursday, 22nd July, 1982, presented by Lippmann+Rau in cooperation with SKS Erwin Russ. Album wise, 1982 was a quiet year for Baez, although Vanguard Records released Very Early Joan, a two-record set comprised of live concert performances recorded between 1961-1963. She did, however, make several appearances in support of a nuclear weapons freeze, including a duet with Bob Dylan at the Peace Sunday benefit concert at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on 6th June, 1982. She also joined Jackson Browne in an ecumenical vigil in Washington, D.C. in memory of assassinated Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero. Also in 1982, the film There But For Fortune: Joan Baez in Latin America, premiered on PBS television, documenting her ill-fated 1981 Latin American tour. She was prevented from performing in Chile, Brazil and Argentina, for fear her criticism of their human-rights practices would reach mass audiences if she were given a podium. While there, she was kept under surveillance and subjected to death threats.

The poster measures 60.1 x 84.0 cm (approx. 23.6″ by 33.1″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
