May 1971 Japanese concert tour program
Large original vintage concert program lavishly produced for American composer, songwriter, record producer and pianist Burt Bacharach’s May 1971 Japanese tour, presented by Kyodo Tokyo. The 6-date tour commenced at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on 1st May and ended at the Welfare Pension Hall in Tokyo on 7th May, 1971. The tour captured Bacharach at the absolute zenith of his mid-century solo success. It caught him stepping out from behind the scenes to firmly command the stage as a frontline showman. Rather than acting purely as a background composer or traveling with his definitive star vocalists like Dionne Warwick or Dusty Springfield, Bacharach headlined the tour himself. He acted as the lead vocalist, pianist, arranger, and conductor. Accompanied by a massive, local Japanese backing orchestra and his own hand-picked ensemble of American chorus singers, the tour perfectly translated his intricate, heavily layered studio orchestrations into a dynamic live space.
In original illustrated dull-coated wrappers, staple bound, 25.4 x 36.2 cm, 36 pp. All text in Japanese. In near excellent condition with light sporadic foxing inside, else tightly bound and clean.
