October 1969 UK concert tour program

Original vintage concert program produced for the “American Folk, Blues & Gospel Festival” October 1969 package tour of Great Britain, presented by Harold Davison in association with Melody Maker. Performing artists included Albert King (1923—1992), John Lee Hooker (1917—2001), Otis Spann (1930—1970), Champion Jack Dupree (1910—1992), and The Stars of Faith. About six months after this tour, the great Otis Spann died of liver cancer in Chicago. Considered to be the leading postwar Chicago blues pianist, Spann was buried in Burr Oak Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois. His grave was unmarked for almost thirty years, until blues enthusiasts from around the world sent donations to purchase a headstone. On 6th June, 1999, the marker was unveiled in a private ceremony. The stone is inscribed, “Otis played the deepest blues we ever heard – He’ll play forever in our hearts”. He was posthumously elected to the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980.

In original illustrated uncoated wrappers, staple bound, 20.7 x 25.6 cm, 20 pp. Program notes by Benny Green. In excellent complete condition, tightly bound and clean. Additional images of the program available on request.
