Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels January 1956 concert flyer
Original double-sided first printing concert flyer advertising American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and composer Sidney Bechet (1897–1959) at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels [Belgium] on Sunday, 15th January, 1956, accompanied by French clarinetist André Reweliotty. Acknowledged as one of the first important soloists in jazz and perhaps the first notable jazz saxophonist, Bechet died in Paris from lung cancer on 14th May 1959, on his 62nd birthday.
The flyer measures measures 10.4 x 14.9 cm and is beautifully printed in green and black inks on medium-thin, uncoated paper stock. These unique Belgium flyers were mailed to members of the Belgian Hot Club as well as used as window cards in nearby theaters, shops and businesses as a promotional tool with the primary purpose of selling tickets. Ticket prices were 100 Belgian francs, while members of the H.C.B. would get a 20 franc discount. In near excellent unfolded condition. Photo of the back of the flyer available on request.
