November 1965 German concert poster (Michel+Kieser)
Large original first printing concert poster designed to promote the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet and the Jimmy Smith Trio’s joint November 1965 German tour, presented by German impresarios Horst Lippmann and Fritz Rau in association with Norman Granz. Dizzy’s Quintet for the European tour featured pianist Kenny Baron, bassist Christopher Wesley White, saxophonist and flutist James Moody, and drummer Rudy Collins. Jimmy Smith was accompanied by drummer Billy Hart and guitarist Quentin Warren. The poster features delicate artwork by noted German graphic duo, Hans Michel and Günther Kieser.
The poster measures 83.9 x 59.9 cm (approx. 33″ by 23.6″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. There are a few tiny pin holes to the corners and light sporadic edge wear, else in remarkably near excellent unfolded condition.
